چکیده

An international multilaboratory collaborative study was conducted to develop standard media and consensus methods for the performance and quality control of antimicrobial susceptibility testing of Mycoplasma pneumoniae, Mycoplasma hominis, and Ureaplasma urealyticum using broth microdilution and agar dilution techniques. A reference strain from the American Type Culture Collection was designated for each species, which was to be used for quality control purposes. Repeat testing of replicate samples of each reference strain by participating laboratories utilizing both methods and different lots of media enabled a 3- to 4-dilution MIC range to be established for drugs in several different classes, including tetracyclines, macrolides, ketolides, lincosamides, and fluoroquinolones. This represents the first multilaboratory collaboration to standardize susceptibility testing methods and to designate quality control parameters to ensure accurate and reliable assay results for mycoplasmas and ureaplasmas that infect humans.

In Vitro Susceptibility of Ureaplasma urealyticum and Mycoplasma hominis Isolates in Argentina

OBJECTIVE Our goal was to determine the in vitro susceptibility of Ureaplasma urealyticum and Mycoplasma hominis isolates to several antibiotics in Argentina. METHODS Ninety-four strains of U. urealyticum and 18 strains of M. hominis isolated from cervical and urethral specimens were studied. Broth microdilution and agar dilution tests for minocycline, tetracycline, erythromycin, ciprofloxaci...

Letter to the Editor: Breakpoints of the Mycoplasma Hominis and Ureaplasma Urealyticum

www.eymj.org Lee, et al. reported the prevalence and antibiotic susceptibility of Mycoplasma hominis and Ureaplasma urealyticum in pregnant women. They used Mycoplasma IST-2 kit (bioMerieux, Marcy-l’Etoile, France) for the identification and antibiotics susceptibility testing. In the article, the breakpoints were defined as tetracycline S≤4, R≥8; doxycycline S≤4, R≥8; azithromycin S≤0.12, R≥4; ...

Genital Mycoplasma Infection in Cases of Abortion

Abstract Background and Objective: Mycoplasma hominis and Ureaplasma urealyticum are recognized as the main pathogens of urogenital tract. Mycoplasma genitalium can cause several reproductive tract inflammatory syndromes in women. Material and Methods: This study was conducted on 100 women with the history of abortion. The samples were obtained from cervical secretions and remaining products...

Prostatic massage method versus first -void Urine samples to isolate Mycoplasma hominis and Ureaplasma urealyticum from urinary tract infection

Abstract Background and objectives: Ureaplasma urealyticum is one of the most important causes of Nongonococcal urethritis (NGU) and non-specific urethritis (NSU) in men. Also Mycoplasma hominis has a role in causing NGU and NSU. The aim of this study was the detection of Mycoplasma hominis & Ureaplasma urealyticum in men suffering from NGU and NSU by prostatic massage method and first- void Ur...

Susceptibilities of Mycoplasma hominis, M. pneumoniae, and Ureaplasma urealyticum to GAR-936, dalfopristin, dirithromycin, evernimicin, gatifloxacin, linezolid, moxifloxacin, quinupristin-dalfopristin, and telithromycin compared to their susceptibilities to reference macrolides, tetracyclines, and quinolones.

The susceptibilities of Mycoplasma hominis, Mycoplasma pneumoniae, and Ureaplasma urealyticum to eight new antimicrobial agents were determined by agar dilution. M. pneumoniae was susceptible to the new glycylcycline GAR-936 at 0.12 microg/ml and evernimicin at 4 microg/ml, but it was resistant to linezolid. It was most susceptible to dirithromycin, quinupristin-dalfopristin, telithromycin, ref...
